I guess when it comes to pregnancies me and Charlie just don't have good luck... I got a call from the doctor's office today... The doctor looked at my ultrasound from yesterday, and apparently I have placenta previa. They said the placenta is is blocking my cervix. They will give my another ultrasound at 18 weeks to see if its any better. They gave me a couple restrictions, but pretty much there is nothing that can be done right now. Thats all the information I got from the doctor's office, I have another appointment on Tuesday for a regular check up so I will be asking a lot of questions then. I did get out a couple pregnancy books I have to get a little more information. There are a few things that can cause this, one thing is when pregnancies are close together. To me this seems like the most likely reason. This occurs in about 1/200 births. There is a chance that as the pregnancy progresses and I grow, the placenta will move and everything will be ok. If the placenta does not move, there is a chance the baby would have to be delivered early. Which is something I don't even want to think about right now, premature babies can have so many different problems. But, if the baby goes to full term and the placenta is still blocking the cervix it would make a regular delivery impossible and I would have a c-section. So right now we are just hoping this problem will fix itself. All we want is a healthy baby.

Hello! I have posted comments in the past on Landon's blob. I am a friend of the Benefield's & best friends with Steve's sister. I am a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner & I have worked in OB for many years. Please do not let this previa stress you out! It is fairly common, especially this early in your pregnany. As your uterus & baby grow, it will move up! If not, common problems will be spotting & bleeding, especially with increased activity. They would most likely only have to deliver you early if there was an episode of active heavy bleeding & this is not the norm for a previa. You are correct about needing a C-section if it does in fact stay down over your cervix. Even if it does not move all the way up to the top of your uteres, you may still have what is called a low lying placenta & you will most likely have no problems with delivery! I actually had this with my second daughter. It was a complete previa at my first ultrasound, but by 20 weeks it had moved to just 1 centimeter from the cervical opening. I was able to continue on & had an uneventful remaining pregnancy & delivery. I hope all this will be helpful to you. Of course it is all in the Lord's hands & I will most definatley be praying for all of you!

Take care,
